Internship Opportunity as Head of Fashion (unpaid)
SynesthASIA was started in 2008 by four McGill students who were inspired by the artistic movement based on a
neurological condition of cross-wired senses, "synesthesia." The name of the fashion show, "SynesthASIA," is therefore a play on words to describe the artistic vision of featuring fashion designers and talent, with a different contemporary Asian flavour colouring each scene.
In the past, we have worked with Montreal Fashion Week designers such as Dinh Ba Design, Travis Taddeo, Anomal Couture, and Valérie Dumaine, as well as international brands like the New York’s Mighty Healthy, and Ghanian-bred fashion house, Of Rags.
People across Canada have followed and watched SynesthASIA breathe fire, gaining recognition from the Montreal Mirror and Gazette, and from fashion-forward bloggers such as Shedoesthecity.com and Fusion Culture, and a 2-page spread in a national platform, the Asian Women Magazine.
In 2011-2012, SynesthASIA will surprise Montreal with an art piece that moves away from a fashion show to one of mixed media performance, an experiential show that combines art, food, and technology. Collaborating with local fashion designers, architects, filmmakers, software designers, and even food scientists, SynesthASIA will
immerse the audience in a fourth-dimensional world of cross-wired senses, converting “synesthesia” into a theatrical show.
We are currently recruiting talented individuals for the 2011-2012 executive team.

Available Positions:
Head of Fashion
- Create a comprehensive plan to recruit, and manage appropriate designers for clothing, accessories, props, and shoes
- Recruit and train 2-3 assistants
- Manage writing and signing of all clothing contracts
- Obtain designer logos and create slideshow for show
- Organize and oversee model fittings
- Organize clothing pick-up and drop-off
- Create master clothing list (which performer is wearing what outfit)
- Oversee backstage changing and returning of clothing
- Collaborate with other members of the Artistic Team to ensure cohesive artistic efforts
- Attend all executive meetings and participate in all fundraising and outreach events
Head of Public Relations
- Ensure that the SynesthASIA brand is represented appropriately in all publicity and
promotion - Collaborate with Head of Marketing to develop sales and marketing strategy and generate creative ideas to reach out to the Montreal community (e.g. wine and cheese event for bloggers/fashion industry etc)
- Develop a comprehensive press package for distribution
- Contact local and national media, including print and online media (newspapers, magazines, blogs, etc)
- Work closely with Head of Marketing to manage all social media platforms includingFacebook, Twitter, blog, etc.
- Update website regularly, ensuring current event and sponsor sections
Recruit photographers and videographers to attend events and rehearsals
Manage the distribution of press passes and host media on the day of the show
Attend all executive meetings and participate in all fundraising and outreach events
Head of Marketing
- Collaborate with Head of Public Relations to develop sales and marketing strategy and
generate creative ideas to reach out to the Montreal community (e.g. flash mobs, viral
videos etc) - Recruit, train and manage Promotions Team with a special effort to ensure
representation from a diverse background, including members from McGill, Concordia,
LaSalle, UQAM, other universities/cegeps and the Montreal community; Hold weekly
team meetings to plan marketing campaigns and track progress
Oversee execution of marketing strategy, including:- Print marketing: working with a graphic designer to create posters and flyers,
organizing printing and pick up, creating schedules for distribution, mobilizing
team to post posters and flyer regularly leading up to the show - Social Media: work closely with Head of PR to manage all social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, blog, etc)
- Online marketing: develop and film short promotional video clips to be posted
on various websites (youtube, blogs, etc) - Generate creative ideas for other forms of marketing and promotions
- Print marketing: working with a graphic designer to create posters and flyers,
- Attend all executive meetings and participate in all fundraising and outreach events
Head of Business Development (2 positions)
- Recruit, train and manage Business Development Team (previously titled fundraising and sponsorship), including team meetings, activities, and progress
- Create a comprehensive strategy for revenue generation and business growth
- Collaborate with Head of Finance and Administration on production budget and targets; inspire team to collectively generate $10,000 in sponsorship (in-kind and monetary) and fundraising
- Research sponsors and develop meaningful working relationships; compile a master
sponsor list (including potential sponsors), to be continually updated with contact
information, details of sponsorship (or potential sponsorship), correspondence status,
logos and sponsorship level - Lead team to generate ideas for fundraising events (concert, beauty bar, art exhibition,
etc) and oversee budgets, timelines, execution and professionalism of these events
Attend all executive meetings and participate in all fundraising and outreach events
Business Development Team (multiple positions)
- Secure sponsorship and manage accounts of our clients
- Distribute sponsorship package, meet with potential sponsors, and negotiate
contracts - Ensure contract agreements are fulfilled
- Resolve client issues and maintain professional relationships
- Generate ideas for fundraising events (concert, beauty bar, art exhibition, etc), assist in
planning and successful execution of these events - Work as part of a team to achieve the goal of $10, 000 in revenue from sponsorship and
fundraising
Head of Finance and Administration
- Develop a detailed budget with projected costs and revenues, and present monthly budget updates; collaborate with Heads of Business Development to set target values for fundraising and sponsorship
- Manage cash-flow (deposits, withdrawals, reimbursements, obtain certified cheques/money orders for venue payments, etc)
- Oversee all logistics of ticket sales including booking and staffing ticket sales tables and ticket distribution system
- Act as the administrative backbone of the organization, i.e. handling finances, meeting
minutes, and attendance; manage calendar, documents, and general mailing list
