Encouraging Young Designers - Threadless.com

Jake Nickell and Jacob DeHart created Threadless.com as an open call for tee shirt design submissions, to promote the creativity of young artists. Anyone can submit their designs, which are then voted on, over a period of 7 days, by the Threadless community. If it scores highly, it is chosen to be printed and goes on sale on the website. The artist behind the design chosen to be printed then receives $2,000 and a $500 gift certificate, issued via check or PayPal, and a chance to win the annual Bestees Award grand prize of $20,000. And if design is not your thing, you can even just submit a slogan. If it gets printed, you earn $500. Anyone over the age of 13 can participate, no matter where you are located in the world.

For those of you who are not designers, you can encourage this initiative by voting on the designs or, of course, shopping to your heart’s content. Like most online stores, there’s a very clear return policy allowing you to return your purchase for an exchange, refund or credit within 60 days of placing the order.

What’s more, most tees are manufactured in the US, Egypt, Bangladesh and Mexico, in updated facilities for which the Threadless staff has confirmed that the labor conditions are 100% up to US standards.
