On Set: Transformation Glamour au Studio Hausmann

As a make-up artist, nothing pleases me more than to make-over a woman who usually wears her make-up au naturel, into not just another glamorous diva, but one step higher…into femme fatale! So here now ladies...for your viewing pleasure, Laurence’s sexy makeover, step by step, photographed by the incredible Andrea Hausmann in her Old Montreal studio, and documented by the talented Jérôme Suard.

Les cheveux

Pour parvenir au look glamour, j’ai opté pour les boucles sensuelles. Le fer à friser de grosseur moyenne à large est le choix le plus simple. Sur des cheveux aussi fins et raides que ceux de Laurence, la clé du look réside en ces deux secrets:

• Toujours mettre un voile de fixatif sur la mèche à friser juste avant d’y mettre le fer
• Laisser refroidir les boucles dans des pinces. Ceci assure la tenue des boucles!

Ne surtout pas se fier à l’allure grand-mère que ça donne et laisser les cheveux refroidir pendant le maquillage!

To achieve a glamorous look, I opted for sensual curls. Tongs with medium to large thickness are the perfect choice. For Laurence’s fine textured hair, there are two secrets, which are the keys to ‘the’ look:

• Always use some spray/gel on the lock of hair just before curling.
• Let the curls cool while they're rolled with tongs before releasing. This ensures that the curls stay put.

Try to ignore the 'grandma' look those curlers in your hair give you, and let it set while your make-up is being done!

Le maquillage:

Le teint: Toujours commencer par unifier le teint avec le traditionnel trio fond de teint/cache-cerne/poudre. Je recommande fortement l’utilisation d’une base de maquillage, qui prolonge la tenue et rend l’application plus uniforme.

shhh! Truc beauté Crystal MakeUp: Unifier aussi les paupières mobiles avec le cache-cerne suivi de la poudre libre; l’ombre à paupière n’en sera que plus intense et mieux fixée!

Complexion: Begin by evening out the skin tone with the conventional trio – foundation/concealer/powder. I highly recommend the use of a make-up base, it allows for a more uniform application and helps to keep make-up looking fresh longer.

shhh! Crystal MakeUp beauty trick: Don’t forget to even out the tone on the eyelids with concealer, followed by loose powder; it makes the eye-shadow even more intense and helps to keep it looking fresh longer.

Les yeux : Pour le look smokey eye version yeux de chats présenté ici, je commence par donner la forme allongée à l’œil avec la ligne d’eye-liner noir. Il suffit de suivre la ligne des cils en haut ainsi qu’en bas et de rejoindre les deux lignes juste un peu après le coin externe de l’œil, en remontant toujours la ligne vers le haut.

Eyes: For the smoky eye look shown here, I began by lengthening the shape of the eye with black eyeliner. Just follow the top eyelash line with the liner, then the lower eyelash line; joining both at the outer corner of the eye, with constant upward brush strokes.

Appliquer une ombre à paupière de couleur noire matte (ou une teinte foncée de gris, brun, bleu ou prune si le noir vous effraie) sur la moitié externe de la paupière mobile. Le secret ensuite est de fondre la couleur dans le creux de l’œil jusqu’à la pointe du eye-liner.

Apply matte eye shadow in black (or dark grey, brown, blue, plum tint if black is too drastic for you) on the outside edge of the eyelid. The secret then is to blend the colour from the inside of the lid to the outside, all the way up to the eyeliner.

L’effet smokey se créée en passant par-dessus la ligne de eye-liner (en haut et en bas) avec la poudre noire. L’idée est d’avoir un noir intense autour des yeux mais fondu et sans démarcation vers l’extérieur!

The smoky effect is created by going over the eyeliner line lightly (at the top and below) with black shadow. The idea is to have an intense black around the eyes but blended and softened towards the outside!

Appliquer une couleur claire lumineuse (nacré, rosé, doré etc.) sur les deux points de lumière de l’œil pour un effet éclatant : coin interne de l’œil et arcade sourcilière.

Apply a lustrous translucent colour (shimmering pearl, gold or similar) to highlight points that catch the light for a brilliant effect, at the inside corners of the eye and just below the arch of the eyebrow.

Recourber les cils et suivre de deux bonnes couches de mascara noir.

Gently curl eyelashes and follow up with two good coats of black mascara.

Ne pas oublier les sourcils! Ils cadrent votre visage et peuvent littéralement vous transformer (en bien ou en mal, selon l’épilation…) Redessiner leur forme avec un crayon ou une poudre à sourcils, toujours suivit d’un coup de brosse pour dompter les poils et minimiser les traces du subterfuge.

Now don’t forget your eyebrows! They frame your face and can literally transform you (for better or worse, depending on how you’ve shaped them). Reshape with a pencil or eyebrow powder, using a brush to smooth and remove unwanted traces of pencil or powder.

Sculpter le visage aux endroits qu’on désire plus creux, comme sous l’os de la pommette et de la mâchoire. Utiliser une couleur de fond de teint ou de poudre neutre (sans brillant) un peu plus foncée que le teint.

Sculpt the face under cheekbones and the jaw, by giving the illusion of a slightly hollow effect using some foundation cream or neutral powder (without sheen), a tad darker than your complexion.

Les joues : Mettre un peu de couleur au visage avec une touche de blush pêche (ou rosé).

shhh! Truc beauté Crystal MakeUp : Appliquer le blush en souriant! Ceci concentre la couleur au bon endroit, soit la partie saillante de la pommette.

Cheeks: Use blush to add some colour on cheeks.

shhh! Crystal MakeUp trick: Smile while applying blush! This helps to zero-in on where to apply on the cheekbones.

Les lèvres : Terminer avec un gloss translucide de couleur pêche ou rosé.

Terminer la coiffure : Enlever toutes les pinces à cheveux et brosser doucement par larges sections.

shhh! Truc beauté Crystal MakeUp : Brosser les mèches par en-dessous pour éviter de trop défaire les boucles. Un dernier nuage de fixatif et le tour est joué!

Lips: Finish with a translucent glossy pink lip shade.

Hairdo finale: Remove all hair tongs and brush gently.

shhh! Crystal MakeUp trick: brush curls one tier at a time, to avoid opening all curlers together. Undo the last one and your hair is all set!
