Vintage versus Second Hand - Street Style

Montreal StreetStyle
Have you ever noticed that whenever someone buys a bag or something else fashionable at a second hand store they love to call it 'vintage' ? When I buy a nice leather jacket, a bag or a pair of boots in a store like Value Village, Salvation Army or any other similar shop where people bring their used items in order for it  to be sold, I call it second hand.  I would say "Look, I've bought this nice second hand jacket". That's because it used to belong to someone else. And maybe even 2 or 3 other people have worn your lovely stilettos from the eighties already.

Vintage, to me, is a one of a kind 1960's Chanel dress that came straight from the runway and has never been sold to anyone and has never been mass produced. This makes the dress not only unique, but vintage in a way that it has never been worn (except by the runway model at that time of course ), it's hand made with exclusive fabric and it's from a different and specific era.

Second hand or vintage; I love both, but I don't call it vintage if it's from a second hand store. So when it comes to fashion the word vintage means dated, classy and untouched. Second hand , on the contrary, means old and used. So these words are not synonyms, therefore I think they should be used wisely.

Me wearing my SECOND HAND red motor leather jacket bought at a SECOND HAND market in Amsterdam. Plus, my Capelli New York rain boots from New York.
