The unconventional setting had the audience stand, while furniture and props were meticulously set up on the "stage". One of which had a striking resemblance to Marcel Duchamp's Bicycle Wheel artwork. Great use of space by turning an ordinary fashion show into an unpredictable, interactive experience.
The collection presented was very clean-cut and modern: minimal print, great use of leather and wool, and basic white and black pieces. Designer Cecile Raizonville envisioned an "art gallery" type of scenario in which to present her Amish-Punk themed collection. Her inspiration is derived from Amish culture, a world far removed of technology, which blends well with the suggestive modernity at hand. Loved everything about this show and collection.
L'AUTRE COUTURE DE LUKO MARION
Luko Marion presents an avant-garde, edgy collection through bold silhouettes and fabric selection: "Hiver Urbain Souterrain". Beautiful accessories, my favorite from all the shows - especially the quilted leather military hats, which has become a signature look for the designer. I really loved the detailing of the leather trims and harnesses.
Luko's collection is almost entirely black, but when you limit yourself to one color, it challenges you to push yourself beyond your means. He maximizes his creativity, which is an admirable trait. Not only is it a bold collection, but also daring individual pieces. If clothes could talk, these ones would say, "don't mess with me".
The warm neutral color palette for Cockluch's winter line is suggestive of a comfortable, yet stylish, city look. Christine Guérin and Laurie Lemieux, the creative duo behind Cokluch, present flattering cuts and easy styling.
This is a collection wearable for the everyday woman, to dress up or down. Love the combination wool and leather jackets! So trendy. I thought the toggles were a nice detail as well, as opposed to the standard button or zipper closures. The audience loved it, and it's easy to see why.
Rachel Sin is all about color blocking and polka dots for Winter '13. A sort of preppy chic overall look completed with hair buns and thick framed glasses. Very modern and non-fussy, "put on a dress, do your hair in a bun, and go" vibe.
The zipper leggings complimented sheer polka dot blouses, and we saw some peplum items as well. The cuts and slim silhouettes were very figure flattering. Loved the blazers with shawl collars - beautifully done. Overall, a collection of well-fitted and well-made pieces for a confident modern woman.
RUSH COUTURE BY CLAUDETTE FLOYD
The detailed work for Rush Couture's collection is incredible. Where to begin?!
The "controlled fringe" and contrast embroidered fabrics truley makes it a one-of-kind elegant look. Cleverly layered ensembles adorned the stage in modern color blocking.
Sparkly sheer lace pieces were very feminine and pretty. To finish, eye-catching floor length gowns that brought the wow factor. The "tuxedo" inspired designer Claudette Floyd's white and black pieces, but with an evident feminine influence. And props to the model who removed her heels mid-runway! All in all, a lovely, visually appealing collection that keeps couture alive in Montreal.
